CHRIS PORTER
Change is beautiful but I have a complicated relationship with it. I've been meditating on the concept of change.
As I'm in the process of actively denying and stripping away the very impulses that make us human, I'm trading desires for wholeness so that I can truly reconnect with myself and those around me.
My ego, my sexual desires, toxic tendencies, excessive fast food, and self-sabotaging comfort are not only a part of me but put on pedestals in this society.
Change is the bargain you make with your old self to convince them to leave for your new self, who's promising to be better.
And though change is when purpose meets consistency, I have current goals that do not align with the man in the mirror. So I looked him in the eyes and told him…
I told him
He must die.
And though it’s a choice every day to wake up and execute on the ambitions that I've set out to achieve, I am constantly battling the infectious disease that is ego.
A disease that causes us to reject change, assess blame, conform to laziness, and dispose of accountability.
Our egos are groomed in this society, where our self-importance is diminished to a digital universe. Where our morals and dignity are for sale.
You've convinced yourself that you deserve everything you want but have yet to change.
You want suppressors but you have yet to find a cure for the illness you are suffering from.
You believe you are entitled to the fruits of your labor but you have allowed yourself to be convinced that you should live in shame instead of forgiving yourself.
Change is inevitable.
